How to use this staking calculator

  1. Enter the coin and how much you want to stake, in coins or in dollars.
  2. Add today's price and the reward rate (APR) your platform shows.
  3. Enter any fee your exchange or validator takes from your rewards.
  4. Choose how long you plan to stake and how often rewards are added back.
  5. Optional: add a monthly top-up and a price change to compare outcomes.

How staking rewards are calculated

Staking rewards grow your coin balance, not your dollar balance. The calculator works in coins first, then converts to dollars using the price you enter.

rate after fees = APR × (1 − fee)
no restaking: rewards = amount × rate × years
with restaking: balance = amount × (1 + rate ÷ n)n × years

Here n is how many times a year rewards are added back: 365 for daily, 52 for weekly and 12 for monthly.

Example: 10 ETH at 6% APR, restaked daily for 3 years, grows to about 11.97 ETH. Without restaking it ends at 11.80 ETH. The extra 0.17 ETH comes from rewards earning rewards of their own.

APR vs APY in crypto staking

APR is the simple yearly rate. APY includes the effect of restaking, so the more often rewards are added back, the higher it gets. At 6% APR:

Risks to know before you stake

  • Price risk. Rewards are paid in the coin. If its price falls, your dollar value can drop even while your coin balance grows. Try the −50% scenario above.
  • Lock-up and unbonding. Some networks make you wait from a few days to several weeks before staked coins can be moved or sold.
  • Slashing. On some networks, validators that break the rules lose part of their stake, and people who delegate to them can share that loss.
  • Platform risk. If you stake through an exchange, your coins depend on that company staying secure and solvent.
  • Taxes. Many countries tax staking rewards, often when you receive them. Check your local rules.

Frequently asked questions

How are crypto staking rewards calculated?

Rewards are your staked amount multiplied by the reward rate (APR) and the time staked, minus any platform fee. If rewards are restaked, they earn rewards too, which is why APY is higher than APR.

What is the difference between APR and APY in staking?

APR is the simple yearly reward rate. APY includes compounding from restaking. At 6% APR restaked daily, APY is about 6.18%.

Are staking rewards paid in crypto or dollars?

In the coin you stake. Their dollar value changes with the coin's price, which is why the calculator shows both.

Can you lose money staking crypto?

Yes. The coin's price can fall by more than you earn, some networks can slash stakes, and exchanges can fail. Only stake what you can afford to hold through price drops.

Why is my exchange's staking rate lower than the network rate?

Exchanges and validators keep a share of rewards as a fee. Enter that share in the fee field to see your real return.

Is this staking calculator accurate?

It gives an estimate based on the numbers you enter. Real rewards change with network activity, validator performance and coin prices. It is not financial advice.
